Iraq Media Training Course Success

The Documentary Media Centre has facilitated the first media training course for the newly opened Media Training Centre in Iraq.

The Media Training Centre is a new media facility hosted at Diwaniyah Radio in the Al-Qadisiyah Governorate.

The course focused on the skills needed to become a presenter and reporter over the five sessions. It was an opportunity for Diwaniyah residents and organisations to access free media training and also identify opportunities in the media sector.

There was a special focus on supporting women who wish to enter the media and I’m delighted they made up the majority of the 10-hour programme.

The participants had to prepare a report for broadcast on Diwaniyah Radio and the range of subjects covered the lack of graduate employment opportunities, the repatriation of trafficked historical artefacts, the genocide of Yazidi women, the role of tourism in any economic recovery and several issues related to social media usage.

The participants are this week visiting the Diwaniyah Radio studios to learn about the equipment and they will be broadcasting their reports next week.

It was a real pleasure to deliver this programme and my special thanks go to Dr Ahmed Bahiya for his translation skills.
