Day 14 #16DaysOfActivism 2023

Join us for #16DaysOfActivism from across the Parallel Lives Network.

I’ll be interviewing network members about their particular take on activism and what it means to their cause.

The programme runs from Saturday 25th November – International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women – through to Human Rights Day on Sunday 10th December.

For Day 14 #16DaysOfActivism I’m focusing on documentary audio. I’ve included below 3 examples of audio capture from the last few weeks.:

  1. Gateway College Remembrance Event
  2. DOCPhoto8 Photography Exhibition at Leicester Adult Education Centre
  3. Saturday Heritage Fair exhibitor

On Friday 10th November 2023, I attended Gateway College here in Leicester for a remembrance event organised by the student body – see the film here

At the reception afterward, I recorded an interview with the young female student who had led the ceremony. One of the most insightful interviews I’ve ever done with someone who will undoubtedly help to shape a more positive future for us all.

Rob Watson – Decentered Media Podcast 138 – John Coster and Media For Community Conversations

I haven’t caught up with John Coster of the Documentary Media Centre in a while, so today John and I grabbed a coffee and discussed the DocPhoto8 Exhibition that is taking place at Leicester’s Adult Education College. We also discussed John’s development of the Saturday Heritage Fairs and the importance of bringing people together to have conversations that add to their understanding of one another as we navigate a changing and increasingly diverse world.

Rob Watson – Leicester Stories – interview with Dimple Patel

At the November Saturday Heritage Fair, Dimple Patel from Luminous Productions shared her experience creating the Leicester Sound Postcards. Using sounds and testimony, Parveenben’s Shop is the “story of one woman’s love for the craft of sewing, and the empowerment this skill brought her and her mother.”

I want to thank Rob for his support over many years. From Citizens Eye to Documentary Media Centre, from Saturday Heritage Fairs to the DOCPhoto8 exhibition, he is always ready to record interviews and capture the stories of people who are willing to share.

He is steadily creating a broad archive of audio content on both his own Decentered Media platform and Leicester Stories.

He also took the featured image of me interviewing Pat Kotchapakdee from the Faculty of Fine and Applied Arts at Khon Kaen University in Thailand 2018.
